The 2009 Synod Journey for the ELCA Youth Gathering
will be:
New Orleans, Louisiana July 17-27, 2009
If you haven't already done so, register now!
We only have room for four more youth to sign up! See
Pastor Darin for more info.
The theme is Jesus +
Justice + Jazz and it draws from the rich faith
history, diverse cultures, and arts of New Orleans. It will stretch our
understandings of what it means to live in relationship and service with each
other in the manner of Christ—for life!
This Gathering will specifically
focus on what makes the City of New Orleans unique, as well the changes it is
going through as the entire Gulf Coast region continues to recover after
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The focus will be on service and justice as we live
our shared reality as Christians: Marked with the cross of Christ forever, we
are claimed, gathered, and sent for the sake of the world.
We will be immersed in worship, music, Bible study, service,
learning, play, prayer, the witness of faithful leaders from around the world,
reflection, caring for others, and new friendships. The Gathering is a time of
change and growth because we gather in the presence of God's Spirit with others
who journey with Jesus.
Gethsemane to New Orleans 2009
Our trip to New Orleans is going to be wonderful, wacky and
challenging. As your pastor, I am deeply thankful that you have committed
yourself to taking part on this journey with us. In many ways the Journey
has already begun. You can reserve a spot with a $50.00
non-refundable deposit. You will be responsible for $250.00
of the estimated $1,250.00 trip cost if you work the available
fundraisers.
All fund raisers will be community-based
meals, car-washes, etc. because these fund raisers contribute to the youth and
the church community.
