Come Join Us!
Gethsemane Lutheran Church is a vibrant growing community of faith. Living in God's amazing grace, we are committed to sharing the love of Christ in word and deed with you. Come visit and check us out! This Body of Christ is a fun one to be a part of!
If you feel called to join the faith community of Gethsemane, you are warmly welcomed to become a member...and live the freed life of a disciple. Anyone living in the east Iron Range area is invited to become a member of the congregation.
Holy Baptism is the primary way that people join the Church. In the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, God acts to forgive our sins and to establish a relationship with us for this life and for heaven. Baptism is appropriate for all ages of people. Baptism takes place in a Sunday morning worship service, when the community of faith is gathered. If you or a family member are interested in Baptism, please contact the church office. A pastor will arrange to meet with you in your home to set the baptism date, collect some basic information, and walk through the Baptism rite.
If you were baptized in another congregation and wish to join Gethsemane, you will be received into member by letter of transfer (if you are currently active in another congregation) or by reaffirmation of faith (if you are not currently active). The Affirmation of Baptism rite will take place in 2005 on March 7th, September 11th, and December 4th.
New members attend Christianity 101: Orientation for New Members. This one-evening class meets during the week leading up to New Member Sunday. At the orientation, we will review our faith core, learn about the history and organization of the congregation, learn about our synod and our national church, take a tour of the facilities, and walk through the Affirmation of Baptism rite. This is the portion of the service when we receive new members during our regular Sunday service. In 2006, Christianity 101 will take place on March 6th, September 18th, and November 27th, from 6:30-8:45 PM, in the Chapel.
Members are asked to accept the faith core of the Lutheran Church, to hold to the core beliefs, to accept the mission and vision of this congregation, and to strive to live by our living faith practices.
